Tell stories by torchlight. Fall asleep beneath the stars. Alongside your Pack, you\u2019ll spend plenty of time in the great outdoors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Together, you might build a den in your local park, create an edible raft out of sweets, or go on a moonlit hike through your hometown. Some of the skills you develop will be practical, like knowing how to cook a delicious meal or give someone first aid. Others will allow you to become a master at your chosen hobby, or help you to succeed in whichever job you decide to do when you grow up. But the most important skills you\u2019ll learn at Cubs are the ones that help make you feel confident and happy in your own skin. We call these character skills; skills like integrity \u2013 which means being honest and doing what you think is right \u2013 and initiative \u2013 which means knowing how to take the lead through our own accord. But once you\u2019ve settled in, you\u2019ll start speedily earning badges, and you\u2019ll need to know where to put them!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-style-default\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/cub-uniform-simple.png\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"4-what-do-cubs-wear\">What do Cubs wear?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cub uniform consists of a green sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured scarf or &#8216;necker\u2019 to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts. At formal occasions such as Remembrance Sunday Parade uniform also includes blue Scout activity trousers or school trousers\/skirts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"5-why-is-uniform-important\">Why is uniform important?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the Pack. It also gives you a place to show off all the badges you earn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"6-where-can-i-buy-it\">Where can I buy it?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Uniform can either be bought from the&nbsp;online Scout shop or a local supplier. If you\u2019re stuck, ask adult volunteers to tell you more about what to buy and where to buy it. When you join the Pack, you\u2019ll explore these ideas by making a promise. A promise is a set of words that mean something to you, which you try to follow everyday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Making the promise is a big celebration within the Pack. Every time a new Cub&nbsp; joins, they chat through their promise with their leader before saying it out loud in front of their fellow Cubs. Family and friends might come along to see this, too. Doing this is called being \u2018invested\u2019 into Cubs, and it usually takes place once you\u2019ve had a few weeks to settle in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>Everyone is unique but there are some things all Cubs agree on \u2013 such as treating everyone with kindness and promising to do their best. Depending on their own beliefs, they might also promise to live by their faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cubs choose the promise that best suits them.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right wp-block-paragraph\"><em><a href=\"#site-navbar\" data-type=\"page\">&lt; Back to top<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-center\" id=\"8-who-leads-cubs\">Who leads Cubs?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Each Pack is made up of young people aged 8 to 10\u00bd, led by an adult Cub leader traditionally nicknamed&nbsp;<strong>Akela<\/strong>&nbsp;after the wise leader of the wolf pack in Rudyard Kipling\u2019s novel, The Jungle Book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br>As well as the Cub leader, other adults are on hand to supervise activities, share their skills and keep everyone safe. Other young people aged 14 to 18 might help out, too. These are&nbsp;<strong>Explorer Scouts&nbsp;<\/strong>taking part in the<strong>&nbsp;Explorer Scout Young Leader&nbsp;<\/strong>programme. Within their Pack, Cubs are also part of a&nbsp;<strong>Six<\/strong>. A Six is a smaller group of Cubs, headed up by a&nbsp;<strong>Sixer<\/strong>&nbsp;and a<strong>&nbsp;Seconder<\/strong>. If you have any questions about accessibility, it\u2019s best to contact us in addition to your application.
